OUR MEETING THIS WEEK
We'll gather as usual Friday at noon for a regular Club luncheon meeting at the Salisbury Country Club. After our meal and a brief business meeting, we will conduct a service project of putting together snack bags for the clients of Meals on Wheels. Janet Haynes and Ann Eidson are shopping this week for the items to be included. Holly Teeter will host.
OUR MEETING LAST WEEK
Janet Haynes and Erik Lipscomb led us in a team trivia contest. Four table teams competed to answer 13 trivia questions. At the conclusion two tables tied with 15 points, prompting a tie-breaker question - How many bathrooms does the White House have? The table of Dale Basinger, Jim Duncan, Rick Eldridge, Tom McElveen, Bob Setzer and Ronnie Smith (along with a little help from Jess Vess) correctly guessed 35 and won the day. Janet provided each of the winners with a special gift of homemade salsa.
Erik Lipscomb's stepfather, Len Witke, was a guest.
President Janet presented a Kiwanis Charities check for $1,000 to Garette Hunter of Livingstone College for its scholarship program.
Garette also won the chance to pull the Joker in the 50/50 Drawing, but did not. The pot is now at $620. Note: The pot will be awarded during one of the next three weeks as we close out our fiscal year. If members don't pull the Joker on September 13 or 20, we will just draw a ticket to decide the winner at our Evening Banquet on September 27.
HEALTH & HAPPINESS
David Foote gave the H & H Report at Friday's meeting, complete with a spiritual golf joke. Member birthdays include Dr. Bryant Norman on September 4, Stephanie Swink on September 7, and Jane Patterson on September 13. Ann & Wally Eidson had an anniversary on September 9.
OTHER NEWS
Our program for the Friday, September 20 meeting will be given by Donna Beaver with One Church, One Child.
Our final meeting of the 2023-2024 Kiwanis year will be our Annual Evening Banquet to be held Friday, September 27 from 6-8:30pm at The Villa Franca. We held our banquet there last year to everyone's delight. Guests are welcome, but reservations are needed as soon as possible. Sign up on Club Runner or let Rick Eldridge (eldridge81@outlook.com) know if you are coming.
On October 18, we'll be putting together toiletry bags for clients of Project Light as we did last year. Prior to purchasing what we need, we are asking that members donate unused items they may have at home and are not needed. These should be travel-sized toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, kleenex, shampoo, etc. A box is at the badge case each week to collect items.
