OUR MEETING THIS WEEK
Our program next week will be brought to us by Romar Morris with Next Generation Academy.
MARK YOUR CALENDAR: We will not be meeting at the Salisbury Country Club on Friday, May 3rd. Instead, we will be gathering offsite at Partners in Learning, located at 1775 S Martin Luther King Jr. Ave, at 12:00 noon. Please join us for a tour of this beautiful new facility. A box lunch will be provided.
OUR MEETING LAST WEEK
Our speaker was Town of Spencer Mayor, Jonathon Williams. Mayor Williams provided the club with an update on what he referred to as “a common vision and strategic plan for thoughtful economic development.” Mayor Williams particularly focused on preliminary planning along the banks of the Yadkin River on the acreage once owned and operating as the NC Finishing Company. As the midpoint between Washington DC and Atlanta GA, Spencer is still considered to be an advantageous centralized location for industrial development of which he mentioned several prospects under consideration. Mayor Williams, who is currently serving his third term as mayor, displayed a true passion for the small town of 3,400 that sits on the northern edge of Rowan County, discussing schools, housing and expanded greenway development.
President-Elect, Erik Lipscomb, presided in Janet Haynes' absence and the invocation was provided by Walt Wall. Guests included prospective member, Tyler Haines (Catawba’s Head Football Coach) and Melissa Yate’s son Liam, who is currently playing on the Kiwanis Little League Team and working towards his next scouting accolade through arranging an interview with a local leader.
The door prize was won by Dick Franklin. Since Cory Kluttz spoiled our fun last week with his $829.50 haul, we started our 50/50 over again this week with a brand new deck of cards. Daren Fuller’s ticket was the first to be drawn for a chance to find the Joker but he pulled the 9 of Clubs. Who knows, keep playing and maybe you’ll be the next big winner.
HEALTH & HAPPINESS
Caroline Hann & Janet Haynes celebrated their birthdays on April 19th. We also have several members blowing out birthday candles over the upcoming week to include: Rachel Jordan, April 21, Erica Taylor, April 23, Bob Setzer, April 24 and Rick Eldridge next Friday, April 26. This week is also a big week for Anniversaries with Janis and Ronnie Smith celebrating on April 24, and Pam and Bob Setzer on April 25.
David Foote provided our very first Membership Spotlight, which is an opportunity for any member to share something about their life with fellow Kiwanians. You’re welcome to discuss your career, hobby, or even just a funny life event. This week, David shared his passion for woodworking expressed through his business Dave’s Workshop. David donates all of his wood crafts to non-profits or those in need.
Note: The photo depicts David's mishap with a bandsaw.
He will also build a custom item for anyone for the cost of materials. Please reach out to Darren Fuller or David Foote if you’d like to share a short membership spotlight with the club.
Please keep Rick & Susan Eldridge in your thoughts and prayers as they celebrate the life of Rick’s step-mother who passed away last week in High Point at the age of 101.

Based on this creative concept, Bob and Erica will serve as both co-VP and co-President Elect but Bob will step back the following year allowing Erica the opportunity to serve as club President.
A general membership vote was called on the two motions from the floor and both passed unanimously. A second vote was then conducted on the entire 2024/2025 slate and it too passed with a unanimous vote.
