OUR MEETING THIS WEEK
We'll be back Friday at noon at the Country Club for a regular weekly luncheon meeting. Our program speaker will be Dr. Elizabeth Mitcham with the Exceptional Children's Program of Rowan-Salisbury Schools.
OUR MEETING LAST WEEK
Mandy Burns with Church Creek Farm gave our program. Church Creek Farm was started four years ago by Jessica Long, a former nurse who was "burnt out" from COVID. Church Creek grows specialty cut flowers for sale to individuals and florists. Mandy informed us that specialty flowers are a $763 million industry in the US, with most of the stock coming in from out of the country. According to Mandy, locally grown flowers last longer and provide for more local variety. They have two large greenhouses and enjoy a growing season lasting from April to November. You can purchase their flowers on site, on line, or at the Farmer's Markets on Wednesdays or Saturdays.
Richard Yates was a guest. Holly Teeter introduced the speaker. David Foote provided the Health & Happiness Report.
A thank you card for Hot Dog Shack owner Jason Smith was passed around the room for signatures. We appreciate him providing our lunch two years now at our annual Summer Picnic. Janet thanked John Hudson for serving as our host at the Rowan Shrine Club. The Board of Directors authorized an honorarium for the Shrine Club at its meeting last week in appreciation for the use of its property.
Holly Teeter and Rick Eldridge won door prizes, the latter being an arrangement of flowers from Church Creek Farm. Janet Haynes won the chance to draw the Joker in the 50/50, but did not. The pot is now $250.
HEALTH & HAPPINESS
Upcoming anniversaries include Allison & Mark Doby on June 26.
Janet Haynes enjoyed her retirement party last week hosted at the residence of Mrs. Paul Fisher. She is retiring from F & M Bank at the end of this week.
